Please ensure they bring plenty to drink, sun cream and a sun hat as they will be outside for a large proportion of the day, weather permitting. Lunchtime arrangements will be as normal and pupils should arrive for registration at the normal time of 8:30am. Pupils must ensure they bring their equipment/books in their bags for all lessons. • Friday 5 May 2023 Foothold Volunteer Taster Sessions Bryngwyn students participating in Volunteens: Be Heard. Be Helpful completed their taster session at Foothold Cymru. On Day 1, students learnt about our Community Food Store, how it helps those in the community and what they could do to further support this. Students helped tidy and stock our store before packing food bags for our second food scheme, Y Fasged Siopa, which delivers food to towns and villages in rural north Carmarthenshire. On Day 2, students made and baked three types of Welsh Cakes in the morning which were then given out in our Community Food Store in Llanelli to those accessing the service. This was an added bonus to beneficiaries to our store! Some of the Welsh Cakes were also used for young people taking part in our Build on Red project too. On both days the young people also prepared and cooked their own lunch developing some basic cookery skills at the same time!

Year 9 pupils joined in the events and were able to discover and explore how our kidneys work; how we treat kidney disease; how to maintain healthy lifestyles; digital technology in healthcare; animations and augmented reality in the NHS and career paths in the NHS. We were delighted to be joined by representatives form Welsh Government, Carmarthenshire local authority, a range of NHS professionals and Mrs Judith Paget CBE (Chief executive, NHS Wales). The event was a great success, lots of fun and a truly relevant authentic learning experience for our learners. Thank you to all involved!

• Thursday 9 December 2021 Salvation Army Collection 2021 This year Bryngwyn School has once again supported the Salvation Army's Christmas Present Appeal. Pupils have participated in sponsored walks and organised fundraising activities and games to raise as much money as they can to support the cause. Their hard work and efforts have been a pleasure to witness, with over £1900 being raised in cash donations, which has been spent on gifts for families that the Salvation Army support in the local community. In addition, family, friends and colleagues of the school have also donated an incredible £1250 via ParentPay, whichwill be presented to the Salvation Army for further gifts to be purchased. Thank you to all involved in this year’s appeal. Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi gyd a Nadolig Llawen.

• Monday 8 November 2021 Year 11 GCSE English Language Individual Presentation assessments Year 11 pupils will sit their GCSE English Language Individual Presentation assessments next week, beginning 15th November. All pupils will be given a 10-minute appointment time across the week which they must attend. Pupils have spent time in class writing their presentations, and should also be practising and learning their speeches at home in preparation for this important assessment, worth 20% of their final GCSE English Language grade. Teachers will be more than happy to discuss these presentations in further detail at Parents' Evening this week.
